RECREATION!!! How we came to be here
d. Multiple Use
DNR is directed to manage trust lands for “multiple uses.” This can involve several land uses simultaneously on a single tract or the rotation of uses between specific portions of the parcel. In addition to
resource extraction, “multiple uses” include recreation for vehicular and non-vehicular uses, special education or scientific uses, experimental programs by public agencies, special events, hunting and
fishing or other sports activities, non-consumptive wildlife activities, and public rights-of-way. Such uses must be compatible with the financial obligations in the management of the trust, and financial
compensation must be provided. In planning for multiple uses, the DNR is required to consider various ecological conditions, values, public use potential, accessibility, economic uses, recreational
potentials, and local and regional land use plans or zones, local, regional, state, and federal comprehensive land use plans.
