Trail Closures
Current Trail Closures

EQUESTRIAN AND MOTORIZED OPEN SEASON:
APRIL 1 - OCTOBER 31

Capitol Forest trails are closed to horse and motorized use during the "heavier" rainy season, (summer
around here is known as the "lighter" rainy season). During the winter the trails are closed to horse and
motorized use in order to prevent serious erosion and impact on the softer wet soil and allow trail
restoration crews time to restore and repair trail damage from the open season.

Capitol Forest is a working forest that balances responsible tree farming with recreation, therefore due to forest management practices trail closure do occur. DNR's
policy regarding these closures requires logging operations to make efforts to reopen trails on weekends during the open season, as well as restore trails to original
condition after the tree harvesting operation is complete.
